From Siliguri the road distance to Lamahatta is about 72kms and will take about 3.5 hours. You will need to come to Jorebungalow near Ghoom and then take the road for Lamahatta. Easiest is to take a taxi from NJP station. Otherwise take a shared jeep up to Jorebungalow and then another one from there up to Lamahatta.

From Darjeeling the distance to Lamahatta is 23kms. Best is to take a taxi which will take little over an hour to reach. If you are coming from Kalimpong, the distance is 41kms (about 2 hrs).

Lamahatta is located at an altitude of about 5,700 feet and at a distance of 23kms from Darjeeling hill town (takes little over an hour by car). Although it's just a small village where farming and cattle rearing are the main sources of livelihood, Lamahatta is well connected by the Darjeeling-Kalimpong state highway.

The main inhabitants here are tribes like Sherpas, Yalmos, Tamangs, Bhutias and Dukpas. They have all come together to join hands with the government workers to create an eco tourism place with a government funding of about Rs. 1.5 crores.

  • From NJP / Siliguri Rly Station to teesta via NH31 road lopchu and peshok TE Road to Resort Everest Hut in lamahatta by vehicle about 69KM.
  • From Siliguri to Jorebungalow near Ghoom Railway Station and to Lamahatta. The distance is around 72 kms.
  • Around 23 km from Darjeeling.
  • Around 41 km from Kalimpong.

Places Nearby

Takdah Cantonment, a small hamlet located around 28 km from Darjeeling and around 40 km from Kalimpong, is an upcoming tourist destination. This little unknown hamlet has a very pleasant weather all the year round. Following are the Tourist Spot in and around Takdah:
1. Takdah Orchid Centre (Usually open in Feb, March and April).
2. Teesta Valley Durbin -- Around half an hour by Road, this view point is a must see.
3. Rongli Rangliot Tea Estate -- These tea estates are on the way to Teesta Valley Durbin.
4. Geil Tea Estate -- - These tea estates are on the way to Teesta Valley Durbin.
5. Borbatey Heritage Bridge -- This is a hanging bridge and attracts lot of tourists.
6. Visit to Tea Estates -- Visit to tea estates like Takdah Tea Estate, Glenburg Tea Estate, Rangli Ranglist Tea Estate.

Road Side Garden:
On of the main attractions of Lamahatta is the Road side Garden spread over a vast expanse. An open garden displayed with variety of seasonal flowers along with vast display of wide variety of Orchids. The watch tower and garden benches add to the beauty of garden where one can enjoy the nature at close quarters. The view of the Kanchendzonga, Sikkim Hills, river Teesta and Rangit can be enjoyed from this garden. An ideal place to relax and forget all your worries.

Dense Dhupi Plantations:
Small walks and treks are possible from Lamahatta. Walking amidst the Dhupi plantations with lush green flora all around provides a thrilling experience.

Hill Top Water Bodies:
Small trek leads to two small ponds over the hill. These ponds are considered sacred by the locals.

Small Trek:
Small trek from lamahattalodge through scenic garden up to the sacred water body through dense dhupi plantation and alpine valley and the scerene meditation centre and then to 8th mile organic centre where one can relish organic carrot and beat vegetables and then back through village road to lamahattalodge time taken is 45minutes.

Medium Trek:
Medium trek to old Buddhist monastry (made up of mud wood and stones ) through scenic forest and then stone pathway inside the alpine forest where one can be with nature with all the flora and fauna and the birds chirping and paradise for the bird lovers to small tea garden the Tuti Hatta tea Garden where the veiwers is blessed by the mighty Mt.Kanchenjunga and the beautiful Singhalila Range and the gushing River Rangeet down below from the green carpet of the Darjeeling organic tea estate. there one can sip darjeeling tea from the small shop at Tuti Hatta and being energised one can slowly climb through terrace farming of Lamahatta Busty and then back up to lamahattalodge. time taken 2hrs,
